GRANDE OPENING May 19, 2007
Even though the Train Station/Research Center has been open during limited hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (1:00-4:00 pm) we have not yet formally dedicated the newly-remodeled station and research center. The A D White Research center, Limited. is now proud to formally dedicate our center and honor Mr. Alvin Dinsmore White, educator and historian. The dedication and Grande Opening will take place Saturday, May 19, at the Center (10 Seneca Place, Avella) and the First Presbyterian Church of Avella. (Meet at the train station at 9:30 am if possible.) Dinner will be served afterward at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. (Reservations required; dinners $10 per person.)
Tours of the Train station will be held during the day, and historical exhibits will be set up. Mr. Larry Parsons, CEO, and two Vice Presidents of the Wheeling & Lake Erie RR will arrive, via private railroad coach, and will provide some remarks as part of the program. More details will be provided at this site in the future, or you can conatct the Center for more information.
NOTE, historical books will be available for sale, and plaques made from slates removed from the 100-plus year-old roof will be available, if any remain- only 100 numbered plaques have been created. Individually crafted and numbered, with no two being identical, they may be purchased for a $50 donation.
